  • Review of sgian dubh made by Joe Gondek

    #1
Hello everyone! My husband and I recently purchased a sgian dubh from Joe Gondek, and we have a review on my website with plenty of photos:

    http://www.cfgriffith.com/2012/04/01/sgian-dubh-review/

Since Christopher wrote the review, I thought I would take this moment to post my thoughts... since Christopher doesn't have a lot of time to visit forums (Joe doesn't have a website), I was the one communicating for Christopher and Joe. I have to add that Joe is perfect to work with! He quickly answered any questions I had, and listened to our needs and fulfilled those wishes.

We had purchased a Rob Roy style sporran from Joe in 2010, and we'd seen photos of the other items he's made. We knew we just had to make the one sgian dubh Christopher bought (he doesn't see himself purchasing a lot of kilts or accessories) be one from Joe Gondek. We couldn't be more pleased!

Now I like that! That is coming from some one who does not normally like stag handles!

Very nice review and some good photos, one thing that does not seem evident from either the review or the photos is the back of the sgian dubh. One thing I like to know is how the back of the sgian dubh is made, is it smooth against the leg etc.

A nice little blade Cynthia and thanks for the review. Joe Gondek is a fine craftsman, hope we can see more of his work in the future.

I know what you mean, Jock. At first, I wasn't sure what to think of them, and over time they really grew on me. We like the more subtle, earthy look. Nothing too decorative, and definitely something you could use.

He took some of the back, but I don't know if he got any that showed a side-view. I think he mentioned briefly that it's comfortable against his leg. I haven't worn it, so I can't state in more detail, but he finds it to be comfortable and just fine.

Thanks for checking it out, everyone!
