  • Multi tartan kilt

    #1
Following on from the recycled jeans kilt, I decided that some of my tartan scraps needed to be put to use as well, so this time it's a multi tartan kilt, with strips from some of the last years kilts, I haven't decided on the apron yet, not sure if there might be too much tartan and perhaps I would be better with a plain grey or dark tweed or wool any ideas?

What an interesting idea Paul. I think you may be onto something with the solid tweed apron, I think if you were to use tartan for the apron, and under apron you come up against a few problems not least of which would be picking the tartan to use. Once this one is done I`d love to see a pleat swing photo of it, that would be colourful to say the least.

Well Paul, I suppose that might be a bit trendy for my old eyes and I personally would have reservations about having assorted Clan tartans put together, from a "political" point of view , but wow, what colour combinations you could have! So, how about district tartans being put together?

What about Caledonia? - It has virtually every thread colour as does your pleats.

or you put more and more different squres together.... and make the kilt wilder and wilder

Wow, so beautiful, and I love the idea. Maybe another pic with your different apron ideas overlaid would help give us an idea of how it would look (can you tell I was raised by a quilter? Laying fabric out on the floor or sticking it to a design wall was often my job as a kid)

thanks fro all the comments, the chief thing behind this is to use up the fabric i have , and not to buy anything new,if I had the choice of any tartan i would do it a little differently!
I have decided on a nice plain gray wool for the aprons from my stock, I tried a few different colours, but this gray seemed to work the best

Paul I really like the fringe you have there, and I think the grey works wonderfully with all that colour. Looking forward to seeing it finished.
